About GIS

A School Where Learners Thrive

Gjøvikregionen International School (GIS) is an IB World School providing an engaging international education for students from Grade 1 to Grade 10. Located in the heart of the Gjøvik region, we combine the benefits of a close-knit community with a global outlook, creating a learning environment where every student is known, valued, and supported.

Our vision is simple but ambitious:

Guiding and inspiring every learner to shape a more harmonious world of tomorrow with confidence, integrity, and a sense of global responsibility.

At GIS, we believe education should prepare young people not only for academic success, but also for life. Through meaningful inquiry, intercultural understanding, and a strong focus on student well-being, we help learners develop the competencies, confidence, and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Why Families Choose GIS

International Education

As an IB World School, GIS delivers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP). Our programmes encourage curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Student Well-being

We believe students learn best when they feel safe, respected, and supported. Strong relationships between students, staff, and families are at the heart of our community.

A Truly Diverse Community

Our students and families come from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. This diversity enriches learning and helps students develop empathy, intercultural understanding, and a broader perspective on the world.

Individual Growth

With small class sizes and dedicated staff, we are able to support each learner as an individual, helping them identify strengths, overcome challenges, and achieve their personal goals.

Learning for the World of Tomorrow

Our mission is:

An engaging international education fostering meaningful inquiry and intercultural understanding, that supports student well-being, while developing the competencies, confidence and character to thrive in the world of tomorrow.

Through classroom learning, community engagement, leadership opportunities, and extracurricular activities, students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.

Our Journey

GIS opened in August 2015 with 30 students and a vision to provide high-quality international education in the Gjøvik region. Since then, the school has grown significantly and now serves more than 180 students across the Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme. The school became authorised to offer the IB Primary Years Programme in 2018 and the IB Middle Years Programme in 2019.

Today, GIS is a well-established international school that continues to grow while remaining committed to its values of inclusion, excellence, and community.
